Bacon in the car

Thursday 31 July 2008

Okay, I know I've had a lot of pictures of Bacon lately, and I promise to rein myself in and not become one of those bloggers who puts up nothing but pictures of their cat. But this one was just so adorable, I couldn't resist!

Beth and Bacon

Tuesday 29 July 2008

Here's Beth having a little chat with Bacon. It's funny how he really has become a part of the family. We never had dogs or cats growing up, so that was something I never really understood before Beth got Bacon.

Copcakes

Monday 28 July 2008

Beth's friend Matt was just accepted into the police academy, so we spent the afternoon making him funny "copcakes."

Leroy Farm Market

Friday 25 July 2008

My mom and I went to Leroy this weekend to visit with my grandmother. We went to the farm market in town to pick up some sweet corn and chat with all the millions of people my mom still knows here.

Trying on dresses

Monday 21 July 2008

Well, our exciting preparations have begun! My mom, sister (maid of honor), Natalie (bridesmaid) and I went shopping for wedding dresses, mostly just to get ideas. This is me being helped into the biggest, fluffiest, most princessy dress we could find. I figured I'd try on one of those just for fun. But man, just sitting down was a chore! And getting in and out of the thing? I need more bridesmaids . . .

Backyard

Sunday 20 July 2008

Yep, another relaxing backyard picture. I love my parents' backyard.

But really, this isn't all I'm doing here at home - I took this while waiting for Bacon to do his business, then went back inside and got to work!

Becky and Matt

Saturday 19 July 2008

I went to my friend Becky's wedding today - it's so nice to go to a wedding knowing that the couple really will be together for the rest of their lives.

Wine on the deck

Friday 18 July 2008

We've been having some truly gorgeous summer weather here lately. Hot, humid days, blue skies with puffy white clouds, and warm, balmy evenings. We've been taking advantage of these evenings to sit out on the deck, sipping wine and chatting. Here are my parents in the lighted little deck space they've created, enjoying the nice night.

Night Lake

Thursday 17 July 2008

I've been experimenting with night photography a bit here at home. This is a long exposure of the lake at night, looking a little eerie.

Floating

Tuesday 15 July 2008

On Saturday, Beth, Donny, and I floated down a river in Indiana with Donny's fraternity. We had so very much fun that day, that Beth and I decided to get the rafts back out and recreate the experience in the lake behind our house.

I scream . . .

Monday 14 July 2008

Have I mentioned that our family likes sweets? Ice cream in particular . . . we have no less than five different cartons open in the freezer right now, in fact!

Donny's room

Saturday 12 July 2008

Okay, so the fraternity is not exactly a paragon of cleanliness. Especially as this was a party weekend for the boys, but I have a feeling that none of them are exactly neat freaks. This is Donny's room, not tidy either. The full loft was a little strange, too. You couldn't stand up anywhere in the room.

Frat party

Friday 11 July 2008

Okay, I know it doesn't look too crazy, but it's early yet. I just wanted to point out that they have a whole pool in which to keep their booze. (Later in the evening, there were people swimming in the pool, amongst the booze. You know who you are.) For the record, I didn't drink much tonight, although the rest of the house had no such reservations.

The Cactus

Thursday 10 July 2008

Beth Ann, Donny and I went down to Lafayette, Indiana this weekend to visit Donny's frat house at Purdue. So, naturally, what's the first thing we do when we get there? Go out to a bar and get drunk. Actually, I only had one drink, but it was so strong I felt tipsy the whole night! I'm quite glad I stopped there - Donny and Beth, who each had two I think, were very hungover the next morning.

Happy Fourth!

Friday 4 July 2008

Happy birthday, my love! And happy Fourth of everyone!

A total of fourteen members of the Fannon family went out on Uncle Bill's boat for ice cream, singing of patriotic songs, and fireworks tonight. It is so neat to watch them over the water - it's like you get twice as much show, because of the reflection in the bay. Oh, and all those other little lights? Those are boats - it was like a parking lot out on Barnegat that night.

Mother and Daughter

Thursday 3 July 2008

Clare and Aunt Sue on the bow of the boat, with the Verrazano Bridge up ahead of us. We sailed through New York Harbor today, which was a special treat. We saw Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty from the water, and got lots of cool pictures.

Quilting

Wednesday 2 July 2008

The sea was calm yesterday, but still rolling. (I didn't get sick, but I was still definitely glad when we pulled into an inlet for the night.) But today we sailed through the Long Island Sound, which was as still as a mirror. It was a swimming pool, I couldn't believe how smooth the water was. What good luck we had today.

So, it was smooth enough to do just about anything on board without even remember that you're on a boat on the water. Aunt Sue quilted all day, making good progress on the September-colored quilt she's making for the boat.

Foggy sailing

Tuesday 1 July 2008

We started our journey down the east coast today, and quickly ran into an incredibly thick fog bank. Us girls were out sitting topside, when a bridge stantion suddenly emerged from the mist about 20 feet away - very scary. Now I know where all those sailors' stories about ghost ships and all come from - you really do imagine you see shapes in the grayness. At one point I could have sword there was a mountain just over there.
