Together we rise

Monday 30 April 2012

I was up at Simon Fraser University today for a meeting about my application, and ran into a film crew for some military movie. (I guess it is a fairly popular location.) There were people in full sci-fi military uniforms marching around the courtyard, chanting. And they had replaced all the lovely mosaic murals with these propaganda posters. I'll be quite interested to see what movie all this is for, when it comes out!

Amongst the stars

Sunday 29 April 2012

Today was a free day at the Van Dusen Gardens, so Ryan and I jumped at our chance to go. It was crowded, to be sure, but a lovely afternoon anyway.

Monday 23 April 2012

The Canucks recently lost out of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and people around here were rather disappointed.

Gathering clouds

Wednesday 18 April 2012

The clouds over the mountains to the north are always a bit darker, but today the contrast was just stunning.

Jaclyn's cake

Friday 13 April 2012

I made a strawberry cake with cream cheese icing and strawberries on top for a friend's birthday, and it was one of the best cakes I've ever made. Yum!

Thursday 12 April 2012

Another reason to love Vancouver - there are so many murals. I find this one a bit strange, though.

Happy Easter

Sunday 8 April 2012

Attended the best Easter mass ever today - not only were there two awesome choirs, children with balloons, and a cross made of flowers, but there was confetti! Raining down on everyone! I almost exploded with joy.

The Shipyards

Saturday 7 April 2012

Ryan and I took the Seabus up to North Vancouver for an afternoon strolling around the indoor market and a nice neighborhood. I absolutely love that this city has a "Seabus."

They're watching

Wednesday 4 April 2012

Well, it's official - I'm a permanent resident of Canada! Even the queen says so.

(Although I still don't have any of the privileges of one, like working or traveling - not until I get my card. Which will take two more months. Just because nothing to do with immigration could possibly be easy.)

Sunday 1 April 2012

This is an ad for a yoga studio nearby. When did this sentiment become so acceptable that it's used in advertising? I mean, really, if you are lucky enough to live in Vancouver, Canada (one of the best cities in the world, in a very rich, friendly country) and can afford yoga classes, perhaps it would be better to use all these incredible advantages you have and devote yourself to something larger than just yourself.
