Lost Lagoon

Thursday 29 September 2011

I needed a break from my studies today, so I took a little walk in Stanley Park. As I was lining up the shot, the swans came gliding in, exactly as if cued.

Monday 26 September 2011

Okay, I knew Vancouver was a wonderful temperate city, but passionflowers? This is amazing!

Aquabus

Sunday 25 September 2011

Granville Island is a must-see for first-time visitors to Vancouver, so of course we took my parents over. We even traveled in style, on the Aquabus.

Sea to Sky

Saturday 24 September 2011

We drove a bit north of the city today to take in the amazing views along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, and eat dinner along the water at Horseshoe Bay. I am still just floored that I live in such a gorgeous place. This view is about a 20-minute drive from my house.

Totem

Friday 23 September 2011

My parents are here for a visit, so of course we took them to see the famous Stanley Park Totem Poles. I just love the vivid colors.

Foggy weekend

Sunday 18 September 2011

It was misty and rainy all weekend up here in Whistler, but foggy days still hold a lot of charm in a temperate rainforest.

Whistler dining

Friday 16 September 2011

One of the two dining areas in a residence that Ryan's friend Michael manages. We went up to visit him this weekend, and were delighted to visit one of these incredible homes.Fancy-schmancy, huh? The whole house was full of huge windows, sweeping views, the latest technology and the best in comfort. Quite the mansion, indeed.

Flying Fish

Wednesday 14 September 2011

Along with all the theater, the Fringe Festival also sponsored a bunch of art installations around the island, most with found objects or biodegradable stuff - sticks and whatnot. This is a school of leaf-fish swimming through the trees. They look neat in the wind.

View from Burrard

Tuesday 13 September 2011

(Martes trece, ahhhhh!)

Saw another couple of shows at the Fringe Festival on Granville Island tonight. Then took this photo on the bike ride home - a view from the Burrard Street Bridge.

Fringe!

Monday 12 September 2011

The Fringe Festival is on here in Vancouver, so Ryan and I are taking in a few shows. Tonight: The Cabaret Terrarium, by a comedy duo from New York. It was awesome - we laughed the entire time, and went home imitating "Gustav's" dance style.

These are some of the shows on offer.

City of Glass

Sunday 11 September 2011

Vancouver is called the "City of Glass," and I expect you'll be seeing a few photos that illustrate that fact.

Black Sheep Morris Dancers

Saturday 10 September 2011

There was a big street fair down the road today, so I stopped in after my exam. It was mostly the same booths selling the same organic dog food and politicians giving out balloons to kids, but I also happened upon this energetic group of Morris dancers. They do simple dances while banging those sticks together as percussion for their singing - very fun!

Box-o-veggies

Wednesday 7 September 2011

I love Wednesdays, because Wednesdays are the days we get our box-o-vegetables from a local organic farm.

Tomatoes!

Tuesday 6 September 2011

Ryan's mom bought us some tomato plants. Between the cold summer and our balcony getting only morning sun, I didn't have much hope for them. But we're getting a few sweet cherry tomatoes now, along with some mint and rosemary, from our very first garden.

Beaver Lake

Monday 5 September 2011
